Annual Appeal
Dear Spontaneous Celebrations Community,
Thank you for your continued support, whether that be through your time, energy, or past donations to Spontaneous Celebrations. We hope you can support us again, with a donation today!
Every fall, we ask you to renew your support for our festivals and the slate of programs and activities that take place in and around our 45 Danforth Street building. From the Wake Up the Earth Festival, to the Lantern Parade, to all of the activities brought by our partners like Toddler Drumming, La Piñata, SingPositive, Kids Together in the Arts, Kilombo Novo, and all the individual renters who have partnered with us in one way or other. Thank you for making this all happen!
As we approach the end of an eventful year and look forward to planning for the year ahead, it’s time for us to ask for your help again! With your generous support, we can continue to:
Offer young people a safe and comfortable place for activities, filled with friendly faces.
Mount our signature community celebrations that gather people from JP and beyond; and
Offer an affordable space for family celebrations and community arts in your neighborhood!
In addition to supporting the regular programming, the last 3 years have been out of the ordinary. Like everyone, we have had to deal with the impact of the COVID-19 crisis, which put a big dent in our finances as we weren’t able to rent out our building. On top of that, we have been focused on renovating our building and restructuring our organization.
In 2021, thanks a generous grant from the City of Boston, the Massachusetts Cultural Council, and capital support donations from many of you, Spontaneous made significant improvements to our building – installing a new wood floor upstairs, completely rebuilding the stage, and building a back stairway to the basement. However, the work is not all done, and we continue to work on building improvements, including finishing a beautiful new commercial kitchen, rebuilding the front stairs, and many other small projects that are currently being done by dedicated volunteers.
On top of COVID and the renovations, as we shared earlier this year, we have undergone a restructuring and are in the planning stages of improving our operations going forward. For our organization to thrive, we need to be able to better support our current staff and add more staff for responsibilities that are currently being taken on by volunteers.
Please consider making a gift over and above your typical annual gift to help keep Spontaneous a thriving community center for all to enjoy! Please dig deep, especially if you are fortunate enough to have more capacity to give. And if you know of other sources of funding that might help Spontaneous, please let us know! We need your annual support, no matter the amount, to help our community arts center thrive! If you are able to make a larger one time gift to help us replenish our capital funds, that would go a long way.
There are a number of convenient ways to donate! You can:
mail us a check to 45 Danforth Street, Jamaica Plain, MA, 02130;
donate online at spontaneouscelebrations.org/donations with the option to set up a monthly, quarterly or annual recurring gift;
ask your employer if they have a charitable giving program where you can set up automatic donations that may include a company match;
donate a few shares of much-appreciated stock (note: please email stock do-nation details to admin@spontaneouscelebrations.org);
join dozens of others in making a three-year pledge so that we can count on your support and expand our base over several years; or
try our Txt2Give option: Text the word GIVE to (617) 409-0697!
Thank you for your support, whatever the amount and however you want to get it to us! Every donation helps!
Sincerely,
The Spontaneous Staff, Board, and Volunteers
P.S. We know you get lots of appeals like this, and most are for worthy causes. If each of our donors gave every year, our contributed support would more than double! Please consider giving every year or making a three-year pledge! Thank you again.
