Wake Up the Earth 2023
We are so excited to host the 45th annual Wake Up the Earth Festival!!!
La Tierra es nuestro hogar… This year we wanted to move more deeply into awareness of climate resiliency and how climate change connects to low income and affordable housing access, and the racial inequities in Boston that make climate change a vitally important social justice and racial justice issue.
The work needed to ensure that low income and elderly populations have the means to endure extreme hot or cold conditions. And questions of what WE as their community could be doing to support that work.
We’re only in the beginning phase of exploring how we can make an impact and we’re hoping we can encourage and inspire our community to make a pledge to action. We can start this conversation and look at ways we can make an impact. Future steps will be to find ways to bring these pledges into our collective work together, year round, as well as leading into the festival in the years to come.
We would love to find more partners to explore how the arts can impact and create a voice for change and how our community arts center can be connected more deeply to the work of climate resilience.
“Art & Activism: Creating a Sustainable World Together”
To actualize the focus of this year's festival, and to help create a lasting and hopefully a catalytic effect, we ask each of you, What is one thing YOU can commit to doing this year? We are social animals. We learn from, and are inspired by, each other's actions. If a friend makes a change we are more likely to make a change as well, and if we make a change, vice-versa. We need to be inspired, to inspire, and to hold each other accountable, while working together as a community to make change. We want to feel that we are agents of change, no matter how small our actions or how small we may feel in the face of something as immense as climate change. Bryan Stevenson, author of Just Mercy, writes, “Hopelessness is the enemy of Justice.”
We invite you to join us in thinking about ACTIONS we can take together.
All of us need to BE HELPFUL when we feel HELPLESS, when it comes to taking actions for climate resilience knowing … La Tierra es Nuestro Hogar, the World is Our Home.
