Jamaica Pond Lantern Parade 2022
There are many ways you can help us bring light into darkness this year!
1. MAKE LANTERNS WITH US
As long as most people can remember, each year we have made thousands of lanterns from donated 3-liter bottles. Learn about how our lantern making got started here.
This year our free and easy source dried up! Members of our Programming Circle have been busy exploring different ways of making lanterns - with strings of led-lights or even cellphone lights! If you’d like to help with materials, you can bring us your (CLEAN!) recycled materials, such as egg cartons, salad boxes, milk cartons, etc.
There are many opportunities to drop in and make lanterns, not only at Spontaneous but other places, like the Jamaica Pond Boat House and the public libraries in JP. Materials will be provided, and Fridays will be potluck dinners.
The JP Branches of the Boston Public Library are hosting 2 workshops:
Monday, October 17, 4pm-6pm: Connolly Branch (433 Centre St., JP). More info.
Tuesday, October 18, 4pm-6pm: Jamaica Plain Branch (30 South St. JP). More info.
2. BUY A LANTERN KIT AND MAKE LANTERNS AT HOME. Kits will be available at Boing! Toy Shop and Ula Cafe starting on October 8th. If you don’t want to get your hands dirty, you can also buy a beautiful finished lantern, made by local artists, at both City Feed locations before the parade.
3. VOLUNTEER before, during and/or after the EVENT. Fill our this form to let us know if you are interested in helping with the following:
BEFORE THE PARADE
Help with making lots of lanterns and preparing materials for lantern-making
Help with outreach - painting and/or installing banners
Hold a Lantern Making Fundraiser at your home! Have your guests donate to Spontaneous at this link (please write “Lantern Parade fundraiser”).
DAYS of the PARADE
On Saturday (10/22)
3-5pm Help set up installations (frames with ‘support our sponsors’) and tables around the pond
Both nights:
5-8 pm Manage a station with installations. (2 frames & 1 table)
Hang up lanterns between the 2 frames and sell them.
Provide candles and/or string lights. Use special lighter to help light candles that blew out.
Sunday Evening:
8- 10pm Clean up frames and tables.

5. ACOUSTIC MUSICIANS are WELCOME to PLAY and SING around the POND! If you would like to play acoustic music somewhere around the Pond, fill out this form.
